Moms are special. And not only because of everything we do for our kids and others' kids, the sacrifices we make daily, the way we forget about ourselves and our own self care often. Yes, all of this is true, but it's a lot deeper than that.
Motherhood changes a woman completely, it turns your world upside down, you forget you really are, and often for years. Days often turn into Groundhog Days, and for our CEO Tatiana Tsoir, her work, accounting and bookkeeping, was that escape, even if it was 5 hours a week. Something to do, an adult conversation or task, is often what we moms hold on to daily.
Moms often give up on their own dreams an aspirations, especially while the kids are little. It often takes years to start thinking about rejoining the workforce or starting a business.
A few years ago Tatiana was sitting on the bleachers at a swimming pool talking to a mom. She was working 10 hrs a week as an assistant at a local dance studio our girls attended. So Tatiana asked her friend "Why do you work there?" she could afford to not work. To which she replied: "I want to have something that's JUST MINE." And ohhh how much sense that makes to us!
Tatiana often recalls that the first 6 years of motherhood (3 for each kid) were a blur: when she first became a mom, she completely lost the sense of who she really was despite all the amazing emotions motherhood brought her. It took her years to start hearing her own voice and bookkeeping was THE thing that carried her through and held her together.
Some moms don't have an initial "love" for bookkeeping and many entertain passions for creativity, photography and art. And that's totally cool, yet unpredictable: one day you have a project, the next day you don't. It's a constant chase for work. Bookkeeping is different and many moms discover it, and often cannot afford to learn it well enough to find stable income.
That's where we come in. And that's where you come in, too.
Moms are great time managers - they have to be to survive the Groundhog Day. They are great, effective and efficient employees who work hard. And moms deserve to make a living on their terms. They are responsible for raising the next generation of people and we better give them a way to do that, while still enjoying life a little.
